Course Overview

The Flight Instructor Rating (FIR) Grade 3A is the next step to a rewarding career in aviation, allowing you to teach and mentor the next generation of pilots while refining your own skills. This rating not only enhances your knowledge and flying ability but also opens doors to exciting career opportunities in flight training and commercial aviation.

To obtain a Flight Instructor Rating, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a current Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)
  • Complete the required flight and ground training in accordance with CASA Part 61.T 
  • Complete the Pilot Instructor Rating Common (PIRC) exam
  • Hold Spinning flight activity (included)
  • Pass a Flight Instructor Rating Flight Test.

With a Flight Instructor Rating, you can conduct flight training, help students achieve their pilot licences, and gain valuable experience while building flight hours.   • Phoenix Aero Club members (excluding Social) enjoy a $30/h discount on all aircraft hire rates, which has been included in the above calculations.
  • Additional training may be needed to reach the required flight test standard. This should only be used as an indicative guide with reference to minimum hour requirements for each level of licence, at the current aircraft hiring rates.
  • Prices quoted DO NOT include flight test fees or tower and movement fees in hiring rates. These are calculated per flight, rather than per flight hour, and can be found on our aircraft hiring rates.
