Night VFR Rating

Flying at night is a unique experience for pilots, especially when conducted over a stunning cityscape like Sydney. In addition to this though, the Night Visual Flight Rules (NVFR) Rating allows you greater flexibility in your flight planning, particularly for longer flights that may need to end after the sun has gone down.

Course Overview

The Night VFR Rating is your gateway to flying confidently after sunset, expanding your skills and opening new opportunities in aviation. To obtain a Night VFR Rating, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a current Private Pilot Licence (PPL) or higher
  • Complete a minimum of 5 hours of night flying, including at least 1 hour solo at night
  • Have 3 hours of dual instrument time
  • Complete a flight test demonstrating proficiency in night flying

With a Night VFR Rating, pilots can conduct private operations at night under Visual Flight Rules, adding flexibility and versatility to their flying capabilities. It’s an essential step for pilots who want to enhance their skills, improve safety during night operations, or work towards advanced licences like the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL).

This course can be done at your own pace – from full time to one day a week. Our instructors can tailor a personalised program that gives you maximum value for money and an enjoyable learning experience balancing both theory and practical elements.
